Hah! Got me. That last line.

Sad to say I obviously lack “true strength.”

As do I, Fred, as do I. I read this morning at Nutshell about the Grey Mouser and was sorry to hear about her. Just as well you don’t have true bookish strength today. Maybe you can get lost in a really big book this weekend.

        Dagny,

Thanks for the kind words. I am reading Ishiguro’s _Remains of the Day_ now. Marvelous story. How he can make absorbing several pages of an internal monologue about what constitutes the dignity of a butler is beyond me.

My idea of a perfect butler is from a tv series – Hudson on Upstairs, Downstairs. I’ll never forget an interview I saw with Gordon Jackson. He related how he was going to a dinner party at a friend’s house and some of the other guests were from the U.S. and great fans of the program. Jackson was going to pretend to be ‘Hudson’ and answer the door. At some point he had the dreadful thought that if they didn’t recognize him, would he have to be the butler all evening.
