General Hospital first aired on ABC in a thirty minute time slot on April 1, 1963. I didn’t quite start watching at the beginning, but joined the fun in March of 1964.
The original cast included John Beradino as Dr Steve Hardy, Emily McLaughlin as Jessie Brewer and Roy Thinnes as Dr Phil Brewer.
They were soon joined by Rachel Ames
as Audrey March
who eventually became Audrey Hardy.
Oh, I love this section! I have a Soap Corner in my Potpourri blog. I remember watching GH in the beginning, when I was in college and had a couple of days without classes in the afternoon. Then, until VCRs and later DVRs came along, I didn’t get to watch unless I was home sick.
Thanks for sharing. I’m going to check those links.

Ohhh, I’ll have to visit your soap corner! Your GH story is the same as mine. I started watching in 1964, but until the early 1980s, I only got to watch holidays, etc. I did get a radio in the late 1970s which picked up the tv audio and listened for a few years. That was good. Whenever a new character arrived, I was quizzing all my friends what they looked like.
