Mystery Characters Quote

FoolHoney

I woke up on a floor, a cold concrete floor. It was in a windowless room lit by a bulb hanging from a cord in the middle of the ceiling.

My mouth was dry as cotton and my head hurt like hell. I tried to lift it, and the effort left me shaken and nauseated. I satisfied myself with just shifting my eyes around. I thought of all the books I’d read, all the mysteries. Spenser wouldn’t have ended up this way. Neither would Kinsey Millhone. Or Henrie O. Or Stephanie Plum. Well, yeah, maybe Stephanie Plum.

The morning after I raised my boss from the dead, I got up to find him sitting half-dressed in my backyard on my chaise lounge. It was about ten a.m. on a July day, and the sun was bathing the backyard in brilliant heat. Sam’s hair was turned into a bright tangle of red and gold. He opened his eyes as I came down the back steps and crossed the yard. I was still in my nightshirt, and I didn’t even want to think about my own hair. It was pretty much one big snarl.

After he had drifted back into the woods and I had locked the house up tight, I sat in front of my computer. I had planned to check my e-mail, but instead I found myself trying to unravel Bill’s meaning.

This is the last Sookie novel, wrapping up the series. I am curious as to what will happen and how it will all end. I’ve heard many readers mention that they didn’t like the way the series ended.

Lovely Librarians Stefani at Caught Read Handed and Amy at Read What I Like are hosting the Challenge and you may visit either blog to get the scoop and sign up. It only takes reading one library book during the month of April to qualify and the Library Scavenger Hunt the last half of April sounds like fun. Celebrate National Library Week!

What will I be reading in April from my local library?

The next one (or two if I’m lucky) in Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series. When I decided to try this series last year after numerous recommendations, it was delightful to discover that my local library has the complete series.

FangirlFaultInOurStars

April is Young Adult month for the RMFAO 2015 Genre Challenge, so a great opportunity to read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell which has been on my TBR list since it was so highly recommended by Emma. Another YA which I will get to if time permits is The Fault in our Stars by John Green.

Friday Finds – January 16, 2015

Shocked

Friday Finds is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading to showcase books you recently found and added to your TBR (to be read) list. It doesn’t matter whether you found them free online, borrowed them from a library or purchased them. Anything and everything works.

My total finds for the last couple of week are seven library books and three thrift shop books. Yep, I am already falling behind for this year.

DeadDoornail

I’ve already finished Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris. It is the fifth book in her Sookie Stackhouse series and each book appeals to me more. Yes, I am hooked on this series.

I’m currently reading The Kraken Project by Douglas Preston. More on that Tuesday.

StreetLawyer One of the books I’m most looking forward to is The Street Lawyer by John Grisham, although I don’t know when I’ll be able to actually get around to reading it. I hadn’t read much (if anything) in the way of legal thrillers until Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer. It is the first in Connelly’s Mickey Haller series. I was going to skip them until discovering that Harry Bosch shows up in the next two books. I found The Lincoln Lawyer absolutely riveting and decided I might actually enjoy legal thrillers. Who better to sample than the master John Grisham.

The only other item of particular note is The Inn at Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomber.InnRoseHarbor It is the first of her Rose Harbor series. Back at home, I found out this is a spin-off of her Cedar Cove series, so this book will go in storage for a while. I haven’t read the Cedar Cove books, but love the television series. My local library has the entire Cedar Cove series so I’ll try them as soon as time permits.

As I’d paid for it, I’d thought about how much I was in the hole from hosting Eric already. Clothes and blood mounted up.

I’m finally getting it! I found the first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, full of interesting lore about these vampires. I liked the main characters, but the story itself didn’t really intrigue me enough to make me want to read the entire series – that is until a little teaser at the end. Well, I had to read the second book, Living Dead in Dallas, to see that that was all about. Interesting enough, but continuing? Probably not – until the end. Now with third book, I am probably well and truly hooked.

Club Dead
by Charlaine Harris

ClubDead

A year ago I would have been on the phone dialing 911 before the corpse even hit the floor. But that year had been one long learning curve.

Club Dead is the third book in Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series. I was immediately engaged with this one and really like the writing style. Much of the background was set up in the first two books and Charlaine Harris began really hitting her stride in the series with this one.

Dead Until Dark
by Charlaine Harris

DeadUntilDark

I’d been waiting for the vampire for years when he walked into the bar.

Ever since vampires came out of the coffin (as they laughingly put it) two years ago, I’d hoped one would come to Bon Temps.

Dead Until Dark is the first in Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series. The only thing I previously knew about this series was that it was the basis for the television series True Blood. Hannah’s September 2 TT at The Book Pub about Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse #10) prompted me to read the first book.
