Free Time Fridays – October 31, 2014

WitchReadFTF

Free Time Fridays is a weekly meme created and hosted by Shannon (who currently doesn’t have any Free Time due to a recent move) at eatupmyfreetime.

If you’re new to Free Time Fridays, the details are at eatupmyfreetime here.

I’ve watched two movie marathons and an assortment of old horror movies in this week leading up to Halloween.

First up was a four movie marathon of Tremors. These were fun to revisit, but I actually prefer the television series from 2003. Michael Gross is perfect as Burt Gummer.

A five movie Alien Nation marathon is in progress. Three down, two to go. These also make me want to re-watch the entire series.

Right in the midst of all the movies, there was a special Halloween team challenge at Fun Trivia featuring six exploding pumpkins. On the book front, I finished Burn by Nevada Barr which was due at the library. Not that our dear librarians would have placed a voodoo curse on me had I been late, but one never knows what esoteric knowledge might be picked up through reading and it was set in New Orleans.

That pretty much sums up my free time for this past week. It’s your turn now. How did you spend your free time this week or what are you looking forward to this weekend?

Teaser Tuesdays – October 28, 2014

NewOrleansTT

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can participate.

If you’re new to Teaser Tuesdays, the details are at MizB’s Should Be Reading or on my Teaser Tuesdays Page.

Burn is the sixteenth of Nevada Barr’s Anna Pigeon series. I enjoyed and kept up with the early and middle books because I like Anna and her occupation of Park Ranger is unique. Lately though I have been put off by too many chapters devoted to the one-shot characters who are often unlikeable bad guys. With Burn being set in New Orleans, I am hoping the city itself might lend extra interest to these scenes.

The shop felt witchy enough–a little kitschy as well, but even practitioners of the occult needed to make a living. It was deserted: no customers, no salespeople, not even a black cat lounging amid the esoterica.

Have you read any of Nevada Barr’s Anna Pigeon series? What are you reading now? Do you have a TT to share with us?

Please leave a comment with your link on MizB’s Teaser Tuesday post or below. If you don’t have a blog, you can share your Teaser here in the comment section instead.

Teaser Tuesdays – June 17, 2014

TeaserTuesdays

This Tuesday features a return to my more usual fare of a series mystery.

Borderline

It was good she’d never gone into teaching or motherhood. She most definitely had her favorites and very little compunction about showing it.

Borderline (2009) is Nevada Barr’s 15th Anna Pigeon novel. After the horrific events of the prior book, Winter Study, Anna is on a leave of absence from her job as a Park Ranger. But even on vacation with her newish husband Paul, Anna has an encounter with murder.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesdays participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Do you have a Tuesday Teaser to share with us?
