Vauquer Boarding House 
I think you reached that state where everything you do is done for the love of it. If one has Balzac for company one has made the day through profitably. From the pleasures I get I often wonder why didn’t I think of this retirement before,Ahem.By the way I love ole blue eyes and I grew up with his songs. Have a nice week end, friend.

Prior to retirement, I thought I would have so much more time–mainly for reading, but that was before I discovered the Internet. Really cuts into my reading time, but it sure is entertaining and fun.

I too loved Germinal, although L’Assommoir remains my favorite. Attracted to your name, lol. I am currently reading The Conquest of Plassans and then have three Rougon-Macquarts to go to finish the series.

Lovecraft is one of my two favorite authors. I became fascinated by the man himself through reading his letters and what his friends had written about him.

How could I have taken so long to find your site? So pleased that I have, it is wonderful to meet Mme Vaguer at last. I live in 21st century London and late 18th early 19th century Paris simultaneously. I love Balzac, only Anthony Powell comes close in his observation of humanity and folly but Balzac really gives us the whole of Paris and quite a lot of the rest of France both visible and invisible…

First, your blogs and all your work on Balzac are incredible. I’ve just recently ran into him and have begun feverishly reading everything he has written. I have some questions you might be able to answer or point me to a place to find the answers, is there a way I can ask you these things? If not, thank you all the same for the work you’ve put into this author.

Thanks for this space. Part of my life is a huge library where I converse with old friends and new. Balzac arrived about 5 years ago when I inherited the George Saintsbury 1897 Edition of the Complete Works of Balzac. I have read about 10 of these beautiful old green cloth and slightly crumbling un -cut page edged volumes . What a wonderful and extraordinary world to visit. Balzac lives along with hundreds of characters!

I also have the Saintsbury edition, having been fortunate enough to receive it as a gift in 1985.
