Oh wow, I reckon you might have been able to read one of these in the time it took you to type ’em all out!
Let me know on GR when you read True History of the Kelly Gang, The Leopard and Tracks, (all on my TBR too) and I’ll try to read along with you:)

LOL, you got that right. Maybe I should have been like Guy and not tallying up the count.
Sounds great. Jonathan is also planning to read The Leopard so I’ll let him know.

I’m thinking of reading The Leopard this month, definitely; it may even be my next read. But let me know when you’re both planning to read it.

“Definitely” – eek! Going public sure worked. One time is really as good as any for me.
Lisa? Oh, she may be asleep now.

I suggest you read the Tana French to get you off to a flying start!!

Thanks for the tip, Cleo. In fact, it might have been you who originally put me onto this series..

Loads of variety there! I’m hoping to read some Tana French this year too, plus re-read the second and third volumes of the Scots Quair, since I re-read Sunset Song last year. Good luck with the challenge, and enjoy! 🙂

I’ve heard such good things about Scots Quair and have been meaning to read it for several years. Maybe this will finally be the year.

Dagny,
That’s an impressive list. I’ve read only a few of them. One overlap is Durrell’s _Justine_, which I will be reading, probably this month, for two of my own resolutions: read all of Durrell’s works and reduce my TBR.
I’m not going to go beyond that and provide a list of books for the coming year, but will rely on passing my hand near Mount TBR and see which book leaps up into my hand.
It looks like an enjoyable reading year for you.

Thanks, Fred. I had heard of the Alexandria Quartet but it was your blog which persuaded me to try them. Good luck with your TBR.

That’s an impressive list Dagny and one that gives you a lot of choices. I’m glad to see a lot of Steinbeck on there.
It also reminds me that I still have to read Zola’s Paris—I can’t delay it much longer.

It does look like I’m a special fan of Steinbeck, doesn’t it? Not really, not like Balzac or Zola, but these are some I hadn’t got around to yet.

I like Steinbeck but haven’t read any for years. I sense that he’s out of fashion these days.

I suspect you are right. The last I read of his was the non-fiction Travels with Charley.

Not to worry. Your Mount TBR is a mere ‘molehill’ compared to mine. LOL

Yes, My number is really low compared to many I’ve seen. I think the only reason I panicked was because of my age. 🙂
Good luck with your TBR!

A quick note: Of course our reading experiences generally are somewhat Frostean (most genre fiction is on my road not taken) but there are a couple of titles in this list I would like to hi-light or otherwise comment on. First, I noticed several comments mentioning that The Leopard is a-wanna-read … this very important novel is in my top 40 list and in years past has actually been in the top 10. A must read!
When I read the Alexandria Quartet, I found I spread the four volumes over too much time and missed some of the nuances between the texts: make sure you read all four volumes without throwing in too much delay.
And finally, I found The Riddle of the Sands fascinating, but not a real page-turner and perhaps a solitary opinion, but I felt Peter Høeg’s The Woman and the Ape absolute dreck.

Re The Leopard – Lisa, Jonathan and I have all three already read it – did it right away!
Thanks for the tip on the Alexandria Quartet. I’ve already read Justine, but hadn’t yet planned moving on to the next one.
I was wondering about The Woman and the Ape and fear I will end up being of the same opinion. I found it at a library sale for a buck and it looked interesting … but also like one of those books which could go downhill very fast, lol.

Mike,
I agree with your comments about The Alexandria Quartet. Much of the enjoyment comes from recognizing in the second, third, and fourth books information that clears up or makes one rethink episodes in previous volumes. I have now finished Justine and Balthazar and will go on to Mountolive in a week or so.

Looks like I’d better grab Balthazar from the library this week.
