Hey, everyone. 2017 is almost upon us! It is December, the most magical time of the year, and more so because this is the month we decide and announce the RMFAO Reading Challenges for the coming year!

If you don’t already know, RMFAO is my reading group on Goodreads and it is co-moderated by my very dear friend, Dagny. We have quite a few reading challenges there and have around 300 members. We talk about books and reading related stuff and recommend absolutely amazeballs books to each other. It is a place to be for all the book lovers as you’ll meet some serious bookaholic bibliophiles there.

Back to the point, we just announced the 3rd installment of our most popular challenge on RMFAO – RMFAO 2017 Genre Challenge. In this challenge, we read as per the pre-decided Genre-List that changes every year. This year we’re doing it our old…

    madamevauquer,

Just wanted to let you know that you have influenced me, even though I won’t be joining in on the official challenge. I have a TBR bookcase or two that I’ve been struggling to get to and this appears to be a good way to get at it. I have changed the genre choices to fit my own TBR stack, which is why I won’t be signing up officially.

Best wishes on meeting your own challenge. If I remember, I will check in at the end of the year and report on my success or lack thereof.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!.

      Cool, Fred! Good luck.

I am also doing an informal TBR busting Challenge. I’ll use my “Want to read” shelf at Goodreads which is currently in the 160s. It pretty much contains every unread book in my home. I think it was Stu who posted early this spring about a site to calculate how many books you would read during the rest of your life. I didn’t go there, but it made me think. I’m almost 73 now, so how many more reading years are left to me. The last few years, I’ve read around 100 books per year. This year, in my panic and thanks to audio books from Overdrive through my public library, I am well over 200. But my own books, I have overflowing bookcases, books in boxes under the bed and in the closets. I want to read them all! So my personal goal is to reduce that number to under 100 by the end of 2017. That still leaves room for new books in series I follow, library books, etc. Excited to finally really and truly get to work on that TBR.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!

Edited to add my TBR count as of January 1, 2017 – 164

        Dagny,

I know exactly what you mean for I am 78, and I have at least 200+ books in my TBR bookcases. I also read somewhere around 100+ books a year, but many of them are from the library or from abebooks.com as I belong to too many book discussion groups who don’t regularly choose books from my TBR mountain.
