This week features a return to my favorite genre of series mysteries. You can tell this is one of my favorites since it is the thirtieth installment.
Death of a Policeman
by M.C. Beaton
(Hamish Macbeth #30)
The fact that Daviot’s secretary, Helen, greeted him with a welcome smile made Hamish uneasy. The only times that Helen had ever smiled on him were when he was in trouble.

Have you read any of the Hamish Macbeth books or her Agatha Raisin series?
What are you reading now? Do you have a TT to share with us? Please leave a comment with your link on MizB’s Teaser Tuesday post or below. If you don’t have a blog, you can share your Teaser here in the comment section instead.
I am not familiar with the book but it has a cute cover and cozies are fun reading.

I always used to think of cozies as Miss Marple type books and was surprised to find how many cozies I read, lol. Thanks for coming by to comment and leave your TT.

As you know, I just read the first Hamish Macbeth book. I enjoyed it, and I want to read more, but starting a series with 30 books in it is rather daunting! Especially given that I have a “thing” about reading books in order.

I have the exact same “thing” about reading books in order. 🙂 I started reading Beaton’s books back in the last millennium. On the whole, these are particularly long books and I find them fast reading.

I have been noticing these books around…and I’m definitely curious. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

They’re fun reads and with most series mysteries, best read pretty much in order. I also enjoy Beaton’s Agatha Raisin series, They’re more humorous and Agatha is definitely not as likeable as Hamish, but that’s largely where the humor comes in. I liked Hamish immediately but it took me a couple of books to warm up to Agatha and now I really like her. She’d make a good friend for me as long as we weren’t after the same man, lol.

I have enjoyed mystery novels for years, but some how this series has escaped me. Easy fix though – request lists at the local library. 🙂 I’m going to check out this series. Thanks for a great teaser.

I too have a soft spot for Hamish McBeth that I first came to know through the TV series that ran. Love that teaser, is he in trouble? Thanks for visiting my TT https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/02/03/teaser-tuesday-february-3/

Isn’t he always in trouble, lol? And then there is good ol’ Blair, desperate to have Hamish fired.

Sounds like a good one!
Mine this week is a middle-grade fantasy: http://pdworkman.com/excerpt-from-island-of-fog/

It’s shaping up to be another good one. A fair amount of humor too, mostly connected with his constable/roommate.

I haven’t! But that sounds like a interesting secretary. She doesn’t like much.

I’m trying to remember is she especially doesn’t like Hamish because maybe he once turned her down for a date – easy way for those poor detectives to make a bitter enemy. 😉

Sounds like a fun series of cozies. I already like the usually-cranky secretary.
My Tuesday post features SIX STRINGS.

Cranky secretary isn’t in it all that much. Hamish spends most of his time in his little highland village or running around his area after the bad guys. He probably does get called in onto the carpet a couple of times per book though.

Uh Oh. What did he do or not do. LOL What a fun cover and series. I do love the cozies!

I don’t remember Hamish being always in trouble with his superiors in the first few, but it is now a running theme. Thanks for coming by to comment and leave yours.

Does that mean Hamish is in trouble again? I’m afraid I haven’t read any of the Hamish Macbeth books. Here’s a link to my teaser:

Poor Hamish is always in trouble with someone, but like a true hero of an ongoing series, he prevails. Thanks for leaving the link to your TT.

I love M.C.Beaton’s cozies! I am way behind on the Hamish ones though. On the TBR list it goes!

Yea, great to hear from another fan. I’m usually pretty much up to date with both Hamish and Agatha.

It seems to just be me but I couldn’t bear the first Hamish Macbeth novel! I was fair in my review, identifying exactly why. I hope to hear it was ‘first book blues’ and that others are much better. I am a read-in-order purist but also collect years before I read. So I’d better like M.C. because I have a good 20-25 of hers, some; first edition hardcovers!
Dagny, I don’t see you in my review linky yet. Did you not click in the spaces under the letters of the alphabet? I do warn in the blurb on the review page that for technical reasons, they are nearly invisible but just click in the spaces where you’d expect them. However if you’re off for lunch, I am repairing them now, with a trick I learned. There will be book covers to press instead!

I looked on your site for Death of a Gossip, but couldn’t find any reviews at all for books by Beaton. Maybe it is at Goodreads. I’ll check there. I’m curious to find out why, lol. It’s been so long since I read it, I may or may not remember.
Do you also have some of Beaton’s Agatha Raisin books? or all they all Hamish Macbeth ones?
I tried clicking all along under the letters on the guest review page, both earlier and just now. I am apparently linky-challenged. I tried refreshing the page, but see no book covers.

Spotted your review at Goodreads. I remember that I was a bit irked also at how much was made of Hamish’s extreme moochiness. First person is always my preferred reading too, but there are a number of series I follow anyway. 🙂

Hooray, I have finally found the Linky place. I was looking on “guest reviews” on the drop-down menu, but see now that there is a new page started for this year. Wish me luck, lol.

Sorry to admit, I found “Death Of A Gossip” so terrible, I didn’t put it on my review menu. Yes, I have the first several Agatha Raison too. I sense I’ll prefer her but am willing to give more Hamish Macbeth a chance. I always imagine the gears run better after a first novel.
Yes, the review menu is for the finished guest reviews of 2014 (and mine on other tabs). I’ll make a new one for 2015, I’ll check those linkies with eagerness. I’m sure you made it in!

No need to be sorry about the first Hamish book. I know what you mean about first books when they are busy setting up the story. But even aside from that, we all have different tastes.

The Hamish Macbeth books are a light, gentle read. A nice change from the more ‘tough-guy’ books.

Hmmm… I guess I’ll be needing books like this by the end of this (mystery) month… lol! I’m reading so many crime books that I’m starting to think like a detective myself… lol!

At least I saved you from the pipe. I wouldn’t mind carrying one around for the ornamental value as long as it had never been used, lol.

Yep! I agree… a pipe will add a little more detail to my character! And the next thing you know, I’m a protagonist in some famous detective novel! lol! 😀
