White Fire
by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
(Pendergast #13)

WhiteFire

“Perhaps she didn’t know that Holmes was a fictional detective, we only deal in non-fiction here. . . . . But there was a copy in there of Doyle’s diary–just a photocopy, unfortunately–and it made entertaining reading for an old man stuck in a thankless job in a dusty archive.”

Dust jacket blurb:

Special Agent Pendergast arrives at an exclusive Colorado ski resort to rescue his protégée Corrie Swanson, from serious trouble with the law. His sudden appearance coincides with the first attack of a murderous arsonist who–with brutal precision–begins burning down multimillion-dollar mansions with the families locked inside. . . . .

Drawn deeper into the investigation, Pendergast uncovers a mysterious connection between the dead miners and a fabled, long-lost Sherlock Holmes story–one that might just offer the key to the modern day killings as well.

Thanks, Cleo. The Prologue was great fun. Oscar Wilde also made an appearance. I’m about 1/3 of the way through and wondering if there will be another flash back to the past or not. Thanks for leaving the link to yours.

  2. Sounds like an intriguing mystery. After skiing in Colorado for many years with my family, I’d love to read a story set there.
My Tuesday post features THE YANKEE CLUB.

I’ve never had any winter vacations in Colorado, but have visited and camped out there in the summer several times. Thanks for coming by to comment and leave your link.

My husband LOVES this series. The teaser sounds really good! I’ll share it with him. He hasn’t read this one yet. Thanks for sharing! Here’s my teaser from Lies We Tell Ourselves. Happy reading!

It looks like it’s shaping up to be a good one. Not too many of their books have disappointed me. Sounds like it’s the same for your husband. I laughed to think that someone didn’t know Sherlock Holmes was fictional. Must not be a reader. Thanks for leaving your link, Kim.

  5. This sounds pretty good! I love Sherlock Holmes so it’d be cool to read just for that.

I can’t recall if I ‘commented’ on the Prologue at Goodreads or not. In it, Oscar Wilde told Conan Doyle a story he had heard in Colorado while on tour in the U.S. Upon hearing it, Conan Doyle made a dash for the men’s room.

Thanks for coming by, Shaina. I’m absolutely fascinated by yours this week – and I don’t read much non-fiction.

That’s a great cover! From the teaser and blurb, it’s the kind of book I’d read. Here’s mine: http://writenotereviews.com/2014/12/09/teaser-tuesday-pieces-of-a-lie-by-rowena-holloway/

  12. This one sounds very cozy and I agree with the sentiment that anything with Mr. Holmes is most entertaining; have you watched any of the British TV shows? 😀

I watch quite a few British TV shows when I can get them either on PBS or BBC-America. If I remember correctly, I saw a blurb for a new edition of Sherlock Holmes starting soon on one of them.

Sounds interesting. I just started reading Wheel of Darkness by the same authors. Have to add this one to the TBR list too. Thanks for sharing it! And thanks for coming by my teaser http://razzberrycoloredglasses.blogspot.com/2014/12/teaser-tuesday-nora-bonesteels.html

Wheel of Darkness wasn’t one of my favorites, but don’t go by me. It’s such a matter of taste and I’ve always had issues with Pendergast, lol. In White Fire I am just beginning to actually like the guy – about time. He must be their most popular character since he’s developed into the main one. Actually I started liking him in Two Graves except that I didn’t think it was physically possible for him to have done some of the things he did.

  16. I love the Pendergast series, and given that he’s so Sherlockian, (is that a word?) this looks especially good. I have both White Fire and Blue Labyrinth on my Kindle. Now just to find the time!

White Fire is a library book and it looks like they are beginning to carry this series although they don’t have Blue Labyrinth yet. Corrie Swanson is prominent in White Fire and I’m really beginning to like her. I didn’t care at all for Still Life with Crows and was not happy when she turned up again in Two Graves. I warmed up to her in Two Graves and now I’m a fan, lol.
