Teaser Tuesdays – November 11, 2014

OldStaircase

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can participate.

If you’re new to Teaser Tuesdays, the details are at MizB’s Should Be Reading or on my Teaser Tuesdays Page.

I’m finally getting it! I found the first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, full of interesting lore about these vampires. I liked the main characters, but the story itself didn’t really intrigue me enough to make me want to read the entire series – that is until a little teaser at the end. Well, I had to read the second book, Living Dead in Dallas, to see that that was all about. Interesting enough, but continuing? Probably not – until the end. Now with third book, I am probably well and truly hooked.

Club Dead
by Charlaine Harris

ClubDead

A year ago I would have been on the phone dialing 911 before the corpse even hit the floor. But that year had been one long learning curve.

Club Dead is the third book in Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series. I was immediately engaged with this one and really like the writing style. Much of the background was set up in the first two books and Charlaine Harris began really hitting her stride in the series with this one.

  3. I thought the early and middle books in the series were so much fun! Book 4 was my personal favourite 😉 (Purely for Eric, gotta love that viking!) Hope you love the rest of the book, thanks for sharing!

Nice teaser 🙂 I watched the first few seasons of True Blood, but to be honest I got a bit bored with the show. The books are probably much better and I really hope you continue to enjoy reading them 🙂

    • Thanks, Jasmine. I haven’t seen any of the TV series and don’t have HBO. I’m only just now beginning to really enjoy the series. I put off reading it for ages since I had grown tired of vampires, zombies and the like. Actually, I think it was all the zombie hoopla recently that put me off of those supernatural beings.

I read the Sookie books and loved them. I, also, loved True Blood. I miss it.

    • I sort of began wishing I could at least sample the series when I found out Michael Emerson’s wife was in it. I hope one of the basic cable channels will get to show reruns eventually. Thanks for coming by commenting. I see you also have a series mystery as your TT.

  6. I read the first book in the series–but it didn’t hook me–so I stopped at book one. Glad the series has clicked for you.

  7. The first one didn’t hook me either, Catherine. Nor the second. It has only just now grown on me. I cut some slack for the first one since they had so much to set up. I didn’t really care much for the second one except for some dangling mentions that I wanted to see how they played out.

  10. Your teaser has made me curious although I’m not a huge vampire fan. Thanks for visiting my TT http://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2014/11/11/teaser-tuesday-november-11/

    • Aside from the traditional Dracula, Salem’s Lot and a couple of more odd-ball books, I’m not a great fan of vampires either. This series is beginning to intrigue me because of all the various supernatural beings and the fact that Sookie herself isn’t really supernatural. She’s a telepath.

Thanks for coming by to comment. I see you have a murder mystery this week!

I haven’t read any of this series, but it seems popular. I’m not a vampire/paranormal fan so I probably wouldn’t read these BUT your teaser is a good one and makes me tempted.

  14. No, if you’re not a fan of this genre, you probably wouldn’t make it through the first couple of books. I almost didn’t myself, lol, but something at the end of each one made me curious.

Thanks for leaving your link. Yours this week looks scary! Scarier than these supernatural creatures because it could happen.

  16. When you get around to the books it will be interesting to see what you think of them, especially the first one which is primarily about setting up the scenario. Thanks for commenting.

I had never heard of the author or the books until I started watching “True Blood” on HBO. I immediately liked the show, and after I watched the first season, I began to read the books Harris wrote, that the series was based on. I am sorry that the show will not be back for another season, and apparently Harris stated a while back, that the last Sookie Stackhouse novel that came out, is the end of her story, in written form as well. I am interested to see how she decided to end the series of her heroine.

    • Thanks for this information! Having just begun the book series, I didn’t realize that Harris had ended it, although I was aware that the tv show had.

You have a great blog! I went over there to see what you had about True Blood and discovered Orphan Black and several other entries of great interest to me, especially the one on King’s 11/22/63 at http://wp.me/pXJKv-bQ

Right now I am slogging my way through the third or fourth reading of Catch 22 in about 35 years. It’s definitely not as enjoyable as it was the first time, but few books are. My tastes seem to have changed considerably in the last half century or so, and Heller just doesn’t do it so much for more as formerly. I also just recently found the excluded chapter from Stoker’s “Dracula,” and am enjoying it.

    • My tastes have changed a lot over the years too, Michael. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I visited your blog and found a very interesting post on Stephen King (http://wp.me/p4UAjB-3V ). Loved his early books, then after many years of not reading him, was totally enthralled by 11/22/63. I then saw several good mentions of Duma Key and it was Emma’s blog which you mention ( http://wp.me/p17jHw-FY ) that decided me to read it. Got it from the library Monday and it is up as soon as I finish Club Dead.
