A Pirate Looks at Fifty
by Jimmy Buffett
To make matters worse, the first thing the nuns would make us all do on the first day back was to write about what we had done that summer. Having to recall it all while sitting in the antiseptic atmosphere of a classroom was like staring at the goodies in a bakery window with no money in your pocket.
Including a couple of album covers featuring Jimmy.
Are you feeling nostalgic for the song Margaritaville? Watch Jimmy singing it last year on Ellen. Missing long hair? Go back over thirty years to an appearance on The Tonight Show. Jimmy’s Margaritaville website.
I had to do the same thing umpteen years ago in school! Does this bring back any memories for you? What are you reading now? Do you have a TT to share with us?
Please leave a comment with your link on MizB’s Teaser Tuesday post or below. If you don’t have a blog, you can share your Teaser here in the comment section instead.
I’ve read it and loved it. He lives a fantastic life and I must confess I am a bit jealous.

Great paragraph! I honestly don’t recall any summer vacation essays. My teaser: Lolita by Nabokov

I don’t recall that I had to write those essays more than a couple of times. Certainly not every year. I do have some fond memories of vacations at the beach though – and my grandmother continually sweeping the sand from the room – a losing battle.
Thanks for coming by and leaving your TT.

Jimmy had a pretty good take on it. As he wrote the essay, he remembered all the fun things and then used it during to winter to dream of summer and the beach. Thanks for coming by and leaving yours which sounds very interesting.

I’m surprised from the photo on your profile that you haven’t already read this, Laura. I think the photo in the TT is from a performance in Birmingham.

lol, I always feel bad for anyone with nuns for teachers, my mom and uncles have some horror stories! Cool teaser! This week my teasers are from Banned Books.

Thanks for coming by and for leaving yours. How cool that you picked some Banned Books. Great idea.

Thanks for coming by. I’ve heard about yours this week, but not read it. Jane Austen’s private journals – I’d have to keep remembering it was fiction.

I really like your choice here. If the rest of the book is written with the same tone I bet it’s a great read 🙂

I think that having to write an essay about your summer kind of sucks all the fun out of it, don’t you? Great teaser, thanks for sharing! 🙂

Ha, ha. It would if you just dwelled all summer long on having to do it. Thanks for stopping by. Yours this week has an intriguing title.

You’re welcome, Cyn. Anyone who enjoys his music should also enjoy this book. Some parts are of more interest to me than other parts, but none of it has been boring so far.

I remember some of those essays! I always had a hard time with them, since I spent most of my summers either at the library or in a tree somewhere, reading between dropping leaves and twigs on unsuspecting passers by. It was a nice way to spend the day, but doesn’t make for very good essay material.
Thank you for dropping by my TT!

Ha, ha, especially not good essay material if your teacher was one of the unsuspecting, lol. Nah, you were smarter than that.
Thanks for coming by and leaving yours. Kudos for choosing a banned book this week!

LOL Sadly, none of my teachers fell pray to my shenanigans, but that would have been an even better reason why NOT to write about what I had been up to.
Of course, and thank you! I’m really enjoying the book.
